On Being Set Apart
On Being Set Apart
Monday, October 29 1 Peter 2:9-12
What does this passage communicate about our identity as followers of Jesus? What does that mean? What are the implications of being a "chosen people" and a "royal priesthood?" How should that change the way you live? How does it?
What does it mean that we are "temporary residents and foreigners" here? What is the warning? How do "worldly desires" war against the soul? Where have you most experienced that? Where have you most experienced the mercy of v. 10?
Tuesday, October 30 John 12:25-26, 42-43
What is the observation Jesus makes in v. 25? How have you experienced this to be true? What is the command in v. 26? The promise?
What reason does this passage give for some of the disciples not confessing their faith? What were the implications? What are the things you fear about being fully committed in every way to following Jesus? Read Mark 10:29-31. How does this encourage you?
Wednesday, October 31 Romans 12:1-2
This is an oft-quoted passage. What do you think it means to "offer your bodies as living sacrifices?" For what reason does it suggest we do that? What does it mean to be "holy and pleasing to God?"
What do you think it means that we are to not "conform any longer to the pattern of this world?" What patterns do you think Paul is talking about? Which do you struggle with? What does this passage advise we do? How?
Thursday, November 1 2 Corinthians 5:13-21
What do you think is the point of vs. 13-15? Restate it in your own words. What is Paul encouraging us to do, as followers of Jesus? How can you live into verse 15 more and more?
What does verse 17 say about us as people who believe in Jesus? What is the difference between old and new? If this is all true, then what role does the author say we have to play (v. 20)? How are you at being an ambassador for Christ? In whose life do you suspect God wants to use you? How can you pray for that?
Friday, November 2 1 Timothy 4:12
In Paul's instructions to Timothy, he indicates that there are several practical ways that Timothy can demonstrate his obedience to Jesus and be an example for other believers. What are they? What do you think each means, practically? (For example, what does it mean to be an example "in life?"
How are you doing in each of these areas? Is there one that you think God might be challenging you to work on more than the others? Which one and why? Spend some time praying that He would make you more committed to follow Him in all areas of your life.
