Taking the Land
A Psalm of Hope & Instruction
Monday, August 27 Psalm 37:3-4
What are the instructions in these verses? What are the promises? How have you experienced the reality of these verses?
What does it mean to "delight yourself in the Lord?" How does delighting in the Lord affect your heart? Does it necessarily change the desires of your heart? What about the desires that are not necessarily bad? What are some of those desires? How can you bring those to God?
Tuesday, August 28 Psalm 37:5-6
What are the instructions in these verses? What does it mean to "commit your way to the Lord?" How are you at putting that instruction into practice?
What are the promises in these verses? What is your "cause?" Do you have one? Why or why not? If you could make your life about one godly cause, what would it be? Why? What's keeping you from moving in that direction?
Wednesday, August 29 Psalm 37:10-11
How would you define "wicked?" What is God's opinion about the wicked from this psalm? What is the contrasting value? What does it mean to be meek? Read Jesus' sermon in Matthew 5.
What do you think the idea of "inherit[ing] the land" means for us who are trying to follow Jesus today? What's the other promise? How would you define "peace?" Spend some time praying that God would create that in your life.
Thursday, August 30 Psalm 37:28-29
What do you think God's expectations are for His "faithful ones?" Read Ephesians 2:4-10 and 2 John 4-6. How do these passages inform the psalm?
Read 1 John 3:1 and 4:9-12. Spend some time today focusing on the love God has for you. Have you ever stopped to consider that you are the object of His affection?
Friday, August 31 Psalm 37:34, 39-40
Have you ever felt abandoned by the Lord? When and why? How does v. 34 speak to that experience and reassure? What are His instructions (two pieces of instruction)? How are those helpful when it seems that things are going downhill?
In your life, is God a refuge for you? Why or why not? This verse clearly communicates that He is a security and a deliverer from trouble. Do you believe that? Have you experienced it?
