New Year's Resolution
New Year's Resolution
Monday, January 1 Jeremiah 29:11-13
Its clear that God has plans for us. Its also clear that we have plans for us. But have you ever invited God into your personal planning? Why or why not? Is it comforting or scary to think of living your life based on God's plans for you vs. your own? What does this verse communicate about understanding those plans?
Take some time today to ask God-on your own and as a family-about His plans for you this coming year. What are the things God would have you devote more time and energy toward? Toward what would He have you devote less?
Tuesday, January 2 Philippians 3:7-14
So often in life we think there is "more," only to restrict our search to the things our culture offers. What is Paul striving toward in this passage? If Paul were making a New Year's resolution, what do you think it would be?
Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive. Do you believe that? How does your life demonstrate your confidence in Jesus' teaching? Where (or to whom) do you see God calling you to give more of yourself this year?
Wednesday, January 3 Colossians 2:6, 3:12-14
What goals can you set for yourself that will lead your toward the life listed in v. 12? What one of these areas would you like to grow in most this year?
I heard someone say once that if we are not growing in love for one another, then we are not following Jesus. How have you grown in your love for others over this past year? How can you continue to grow in love? What will be the practical outflow of this?
Thursday, January 4 James 4:13-15
James is pretty clear on how we should involve God in our planning. When you think about the year ahead, what is the main thing you would like to see God accomplish through you?
Spend some time praying today about God's will. Read Romans 12:1-2. How can you get in touch with that will?
Friday, January 5 Micah 6:8
What does this passage say about what God looks for in our lives? Where would you say you stand in relation to these three things over the past year?
Looking forward to this year, what are the ways you can show these values in very real ways? How can you incorporate those into your resolutions?
